Are your barcodes issued by an official body?

Yes. All of our barcode numbers were issued by the UCC, the Uniform Code Council (now renamed GS1-US) which is the body which regulates and assigns barcodes and as such our codes are guaranteed to be unique. These barcodes were originally issued in bulk to a company in the USA who did not need all of them and who have subsequently sold them on to us and transferred ownership to ourselves. When you purchase your barcode numbers from us we will send you a certificate of authenticity which guarantees that your barcodes are unique and will never be sold on to anyone else and we will transfer ownership of those barcodes to you.

Will my barcode numbers be unique to me?

Yes. Our codes originate from GS1-US and are guaranteed to be unique. You are the only person or company in the world who can legally use the barcode numbers that you purchase from us.

Will my barcodes ever expire?

No. Once you have purchased your codes from us they are yours for life to be used as you see fit and you will never have to pay any GS1-US renewal fees or membership fees.

How many Barcodes do I need to purchase?

You will need to purchase a unique barcode number for each different product and product variation that you wish to sell, e.g., size, colour, etc. If , for  example, you wish to sell a pair of shoes in two colours, say black and brown, and in three different sizes, say 3,4 & 5, then you would need to purchase 6 barcode numbers, one for each colour and one for each size.

What is a barcode?

A barcode, also known as a UPC (Universal Product Code) or EAN (European Article Number), is a unique 12 or 13 digit number used to identify a product or product variation within a retailers inventory system.

How do Barcodes work?

When you want to sell your product(s) on any retail platform such as Amazon, the retailer will request that you fill out a product information form listing details of the product(s) that you wish to sell (such as name of product, price, size, colour etc). They will also ask for a unique barcode number to be assigned to that product.

When your barcode is scanned at the checkout, it brings up the form in their internal system and gives you credit for the sale. In simple terms, barcodes are simply a link between your product and the product information form you fill out for each retailer that sells your product(s).

What is the difference between EAN and UPC numbers?

EAN numbers are 13 digits long and can be used anywhere in the world. UPC numbers are 12 digits long and are mainly used in the USA and Canada, however they can also be used throughout Europe and the rest of the world. If you buy from us we will provide you with both versions  and all associated artwork.

Do I need a barcode?

The use of barcodes is not compulsory, however some retail platforms such as Amazon and iTunes insist that every product or variation of a product that you wish to sell has a unique code.

If I already have a UPC number do I need to purchase an EAN number?

No. You can still sell your products with most retailers who use EAN codes, however some international stores will only accept EAN codes so it is a good idea to check with the retailer before purchasing from us.

Will my barcode work in every country?

Yes. Our barcode numbers will work in any country in the world that uses a barcode system.

Can you guarantee that every retail platform will accept your barcodes?

No. We cannot guarantee that every retailer will accept our codes. Examples of retailers who will not accept them are Walmart and Krogers, but our codes can be used with almost any other retailer worldwide including Amazon, eBay and iTunes. If you are unsure whether you can use our codes then please check with your retailer before purchasing from us.

Do I need to be a registered company in order to purchase barcodes?

No. Our barcode numbers can be purchased by individuals, sole traders, small companies or large organizations.

Will my barcodes be registered in a national database?

No. There is no requirement of any kind to register your barcodes with any organization. Retailers will add your barcode numbers to their product database when they start selling your product.
